Veteran, Teacher, Leader

I am a retired Army Veteran. While in the Army I served as an Infantryman, a paratrooper and Russian linguist. After retiring from the military I participated in the Troops to Teachers program and became an 8th grade social studies teacher in Breckinridge County. As a teacher I became involved in the Kentucky Education Association and served twice on their state board of directors. I am also a CASA volunteer working to represent the rights of at-risk children.

I am running for state Representative because of all the bad legislation that has been passed starting in the Bevin administration. The failure to adequately fund our public schools is the top of the list. I cannot abide the legislative attacks on women’s health rights and the LGBTQ community. The KY General Assembly has passed a large number of bad and unconstitutional bills and We, the People, need more voices in the legislature that will speak out.

As a retired teacher in office my primary priority will be PUBLIC education. We passed the Kentucky Education Reform Act in 1990, that’s nearly forty years ago. We need to go back and reexamine the KERA act, see how it well it has done, where it has failed and what we need to do to update it for the 21st Century. This is what we should be focused on, not debating vouchers.

As a private citizen I continue to remain active as an education advocate. I am a member of the KEA-Retired board of directors, attend school board meetings and have spoken with the Hardin and Breckinridge county superintendents about these issues.

My background, education and experience have prepared me to be a strong voice for all the people of the 10th House district. My time as a leader of Soldiers taught me how important it is to listen and respect others when dealing with a problem, the need to work as a team. Because of my training and background as a social studies teacher I understand how our government is SUPPOSED to work and how laws SHOULD be passed. I will not support bad laws which harm people. As a teacher I learned how important the role of public education is to our state, that it is the key to the growth and maturity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
